Robert Plant 🌱 Led Zeppelin

My dear friend @callmethehunter called me out in her tags on this post, asking about a color post I’d made from these November 20-21, 1971 shows known as Electric Magic at Wembley Empire Pool. Not knowing which she had in mind, here for the first time is all of ‘em I’ve got:

Note that these are just the ones from ME. Almost all  of these are my edits, in some cases extremely laborious edits, so if anyone would like to use ‘em, please do, but rather than taking them from here, please vist my Electric Magic tag and reblog the individual posts, where you can also find photographer credits and the like.

There’s also a bunch of backstage photos in that tag, among some of the all-time greats. See also tags like Bonzo’s glasses and Zoso sweater, all of which are from these couple of dates. (Alas, unlike other multi-night stands including Montreux 1971 and Earls Court 1975, I’ve seen nothing persuasive pegging any of  these to one date or the other.)

Please note that that tag is chock full of color posts that I’ve reblogged from other folks over the years, as well as a goodly handful of shots in glorious black and white. I’d honestly rather post NO black and white photos, but hey, that’s what we’ve got, and the best of it really is spectacular.

I still prefer color, so I’m delighted to have gone on this little expedition for you, @callmethehunter!

Led Zeppelin –

Celebrating the release of Led Zeppelin IV in Japan November 1971

Oh my gosh! My favorite set I’ve seen in a while. Robert blowing a kiss, Bonzo with one of his awesome coats, and that last one of them goofing off

The beard beckons.

Alas, led-zeppelin-out-on-the-tiles is no longer with us, or I’d have mentioned it offline instead of publicly….but while this remarkable series is indeed from November, it was in London, at the time of the Electric Magic shows on Nov. 20-21, taken by Wolfgang Heilemann.

Led Zeppelin IV had been released on November 8, but the boys were in Japan all the way back in ZEPtember.

This really is a lovely set, though. In addition to documenting the brief life of Jimmy’s Zoso sweater, this is one of the rare times we see Bonzo in glasses! Be sure to click on all these to see the full size!

And while I’m at it, here’s one more, before they started trashing the set!
